The Teaching and Research Staff include Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Lecturers. They carry out their teaching and research with academic freedom. Their responsibilities include teaching, research, academic service and University administration.
Their teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate education. It includes organizing and supervising laboratory and clinical teaching, delivering practical and clinical instruction, leading tutorials and seminars, preparing teaching materials, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate students, setting and marking exams, as well as invigilating them.
Their academic work includes basic and applied research, supervising undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students, and taking part in academic conferences, research seminars and other scholarly activities.
They also contribute to University governance. This includes serving on the governing bodies of Sections, Departments and the Senate, as well as on University committees and councils. They may also hold academic leadership roles such as Head of Section, Chair of Department, Dean, Vice-Rector and Rector, or serve on electoral bodies and advisory committees.
Members of the Teaching and Research Staff may also contribute to the wider community through their academic and professional expertise.
Appointments are normally full-time, although staff may apply to work part-time where the relevant regulations allow.
Members of the Teaching and Research Staff may advance to the next academic rank in accordance with the applicable legislation.
