STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2023-2027

As the country’s oldest institution of higher education, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens has deep and enduring roots. It is now operating in a period of profound social and economic transformation, alongside far-reaching changes to the natural environment.

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is committed to:

i. responding to these challenges with adaptability, insight and vision, shaping its future in ways that reflect the new realities while strengthening its historic role in higher education and remaining a major national institution;

ii. attracting and nurturing talent in all its forms, including a new generation of highly accomplished academics and staff, across all areas of the University’s mission, while securing the resources needed to support the work and development of staff and students and create an environment in which everyone can thrive;

iii. embracing innovative approaches to teaching, learning and research;

iv. creating the conditions for excellence across all areas of the University’s work;

v. strengthening a sense of community and institutional responsibility.

Against this backdrop, the University has developed its Strategic Development Plan 2023–2027. The Plan is intended to provide inspiration and guidance for the years ahead, at a time of intensifying international competition, far-reaching changes in the landscape of higher education and research in Greece, and the need for the country to emerge from a prolonged, complex and deep-rooted crisis. At the same time, society’s expectations are rising, technology is changing rapidly, and developments around the world are prompting a fundamental rethink of almost every aspect of higher education.
