QUALITY ASSURANCE POLICY

Since 2009, applying the existing legislating framework (Laws 3374/2005 and 4009/2011), and the instructions of the ADIP (Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency - HQA), the University of Athens applied successively the process of internal self-evaluation and then external evaluation in all its Departments after an overall plan. Through the work of the University’s Quality Assurance Unit (MODIP, ΜΟΔΙΠ in Greek) there is a current collection and systematic processing of data relating to all academic units and administrative services. The procedure of the internal evaluation of most Departments has been completed in 2013, while in the first months of 2014 the thirty-three (33) external evaluations of the Departments have followed.

All undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs of the Departments of the University of Athens correspond to the academic level declared and the qualification awarded. This assertion may be supported by (a) the reports of the external evaluators, (b) the detailed information on objectives set and learning results, as they are reflected in the study guides of the Departments, (c) the full alignment with European and International Standards (ECTS system), (d) the standard acceptance of NKUA graduates in postgraduate and doctoral studies not only in Greece but also abroad, and finally (e) the graduate`s professional success and social advancement wherever they finally reside.

Within a pressing timeframe (from early September to the beginnings of December 2014), and in constant contact and cooperation with the above thirty three (33) Departments, the process of the whole internal self-evaluation of the University has been completed and formulated. The resulting extensive report has been submitted to the ADIP. At the same time a blueprint of the University’s Internal Quality Assurance System has been drafted, which should then become a subject of further consultation, through the coordinating work of the MODIP, with the various Departments and the academic community of the University.

During the first week of November 2015 the External Institutional Assessment by external Evaluators took place - distinguished Professors of foreign universities, who evaluated NKUA in all basic aspects, structure, performance, Internationalization and function in accordance with current legislation and its implementation in cooperation with the ADIP.

According to the report of EEC (External Evaluation Committee)«An admirable effort by the academic units and the administration has been made towards establishing a mission and its goals. Fortunately, in the context of the current financial crisis, the long standing tradition of excellence of UOA inherently addresses its immediate mission and goals»…..«The EEC’s assessment is that UOA is worthy of merit. We conclude by pointing out that the recommendations indicated in our report are intended as ways to improve an already excellent Institution. The culture of excellence in research and teaching that the Institution has established for itself was appreciated by every member of the EEC».
