The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) is a research University that builds on foundations which were laid over 183 years ago. The NKUA has attained recognition as an Institution of educational and scientific excellence and as a source of intellectual wealth for our country. Our academic community has successfully overcome turbulent situations and challenges; but we have also seized any opportunity in order to safeguard the University's leading role by a constant engagement to innovation and creativity.  In fact, this year we celebrate Bicentennial Initiative 1821-2021; the celebration of the 200 years since the outbreak of the Greek Revolution of 1821 and the War of Independence will be a key historical event which will be celebrated by the NKUA with a series of events: it is both an occasion to recognize the struggles and sacrifices of our people, while it also requires us to think on the present-day position of our country and its future.
