Professor Gerasimos Siasos, Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, attended the 110th Hellenic Universities Rectors’ Conference held in late January in Volos, Thessaly.

In his address, he thanked Ms Sofia Zacharaki, Greek Minister of Education, and the Ministry’s political leadership for their constructive collaboration, along with Ms Anna Rokofyllou, President of the Youth and Lifelong Learning Foundation, for the significant renovation work carried out on university student halls of residence.
Rector Siasos also stressed the urgent need to increase funding for universities through the National Development Plan. This will ensure the proper maintenance and renovation of educational and research facilities, particularly at large universities with historic buildings over a century old that require immediate attention.
He then referred to the necessary amendments to the legal framework, including regulations on pedagogy and teaching competence, as well as those governing the appointment and promotion of faculty members, which the universities have proposed.

The outcomes of the Conference follow.
