Thursday 05 March 2026 LIBRARY AUDITORIUM OF THE SCHOOL OF PHILOSOPHY
International Interdisciplinary Conference: “Paths of Bakhtinian Thought Then and Now” [5–6 March 2026]

The Department of Russian Language and Literature and Slavic Studies of the School of Philosophy, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), is organizing the International Interdisciplinary Conference entitled “Paths of Bakhtinian Thought Then and Now”, to be held on 5–6 March 2026 at the School of Philosophy in the Zografou University Campus.

The conference focuses on the work and lasting influence of Mikhail Bakhtin, one of the most important theorists of the twentieth century. Concepts such as dialogism, polyphony, heteroglossia, and the chronotope are discussed “then and now” through new readings, applications, and interdisciplinary approaches, with the aim of strengthening dialogue between the humanities and the social sciences.

The programme brings together 50 scholars delivering 43 papers, from 15 universities (6 Greek and 9 international, representing a total of 22 university departments) and 2 organizations. It spans fields including literature, linguistics, philosophy, theology, anthropology, sociology, psychology, political science, education, health sciences, and artistic creation, highlighting the continuing relevance of Bakhtinian thought across diverse academic contexts.

The conference will open on Thursday, 5 March, at 16:15, in the Library Auditorium of the School of Philosophy, NKUA (registration: 15:15–16:15). Proceedings continue on Friday, 6 March, with thematic panels and presentations on the reception of Bakhtin, interdisciplinary applications, and contemporary readings of Bakhtinian theory.

The event forms part of NKUA’s outreach activities and aims to serve as a meeting point for researchers from Greece and abroad, as well as a space where theory and practice intersect—from language study and the interpretation of literary texts to issues of education, culture, and health. Through the breadth and polyphony of its themes, the conference presents Bakhtin as a timely interlocutor for contemporary scholarship and invites the public to engage in a lively dialogue of ideas.

Admission is free to the public, and certificates of attendance will be issued. The Conference Programme/Invitation is attached.
