Emeritus Professor Clyde Williams, OBE, Receives the Title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the School of Physical Education and Sport Science

Emeritus Professor Clyde Williams, OBE, of Loughborough University (United Kingdom) has been awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the School of Physical Education and Sport Science of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

The award ceremony was held on Thursday, 23 April 2026, in the University’s Great Hall.

Proceedings opened with welcoming remarks by Professor Aristeidis Samitas, Vice-Rector for Finance and Development of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Next, Gregory Bogdanis, Professor at the School of Physical Education and Sport Science, spoke about Emeritus Professor Clyde Williams’s work and personal qualities.

The formal conferment then took place with Professor Gerasimos Terzis, Dean of the School of Physical Education and Sport Science, reading the official citation. Following this, he invested the honouree with the academic gown of the School.

The ceremony closed with the awardee, Emeritus Professor Clyde Williams, giving a talk on ‘The Science in Sports Science’.
