The Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Professor Gerasimos Siasos, met with His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I at the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the Phanar.
During the meeting, Professor Siasos updated the Ecumenical Patriarch, who holds an honorary doctorate awarded jointly by all Schools and Departments of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, on the University’s continued development and expanding international presence, as well as the programme of events marking its 190th anniversary.
Professor Siasos said:
‘It was a great honour and pleasure to update His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I on the continued development of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, its growing international presence and the programme of events marking the 190th anniversary of the founding of Greece’s oldest and largest university.
His All-Holiness has long held the University of Athens in special regard and has taken a close and enduring interest in its work. His long-standing commitment to our institution, where he holds an honorary doctorate awarded jointly by all Schools and Departments, is a source of great pride for our entire academic community.
Our long-standing relationship, shaped by the historic ties between the University of Athens and the Ecumenical Patriarchate and grounded in the enduring values of Hellenism, remains a source of inspiration and strength. It also reflects our shared commitment to advancing the University of Athens’ excellence in teaching and research, supporting its continued progress and strengthening its international standing as we celebrate its 190-year history.’
