On Sunday, 1 February, the University of Athens released the sixth issue of its newspaper in collaboration with To Vima tis Kyriakis, titled ‘The University of Athens: A Newspaper of Science, Education, and Culture’.
The front page features an exclusive interview with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, under the headline:
International Developments as an Opportunity for the EU to Emerge Strong and Strategically Autonomous:
Cyprus as a key hub in the Eastern Mediterranean, the broader Middle Eastern security context, Turkey’s Actions, and the Milestone of the EU Council Presidency.
In an in-depth discussion with the Rector of the University of Athens, Professor Gerasimos Siasos, President Christodoulides stressed:
‘The greatest risk is the lack of mutual understanding and genuine willingness to cooperate in addressing the many common challenges we face’.
He added:
‘We remain cautiously optimistic about the resolution of the Cyprus Problem’.
President Christodoulides is set to visit Greece in February for a historic event, attended by the President of the Hellenic Republic, Constantine Tasoulas, to mark the launch of the University of Athens – Cyprus Branch.
