SIGNIFICANT DISTINCTION FOR THE ENERGY POLICY AND DEVELOPMENT CENTRE OF NKUA

The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) announced the selection of the Energy Policy and Development Centre (KEPA) of the NKUA as the Hub for the Seventh Sustainable Development Goal (SDG7) among 1300 academic institutions, members of UNAI.

The selection was in recognition of the research and innovation efforts that KEPA has made for the international promotion of the 7th Sustainable Development Goal for Clean, Affordable and Modern Energy.

The selection was based on the long-term contribution of KEPA for the promotion of International Cooperation among scientific institutions, policymakers and market stakeholders in South East Europe, Black Sea (BSEC) and Central Asia on issues related to SDG 7 for which there is relevant reference.

The UNAI announcement refers also to the KEPA initiative to address energy poverty in a sustainable manner by presenting a proposal for transforming consumers who are unable to cope with minimum energy costs, to prosumers. This will be achieved through the procedures of "structured political dialogue" that refers to the combinations of 'smart zero-energy buildings' using RES and 'smart financing' programs.

This selection, which is an indisputable distinction for NKUA, is expected, according to the estimations of KEPA, to become a catalyst for the promotion of SDG7 actions among the Hellenic Universities.
